What is a Paleta?
The spanish word paleta comes from the word βpaloβ which means stick. So any type of popsicle that comes on a popsicle stick is called a paleta. In Mexico, paletas are usually either de agua o de leche which means water based or milk based. Water paletas are fruit popsicles and are dairy free. Milk paletas are fruit or other flavor mixed with milk cream.
At Paleteria San Marcos, fruit paletas are made with fresh or frozen fruit (depending on seasonal availability). Fresh fruit is sometimes pureed, but usually it is finely diced to preserve the texture. You will see the fruit and texture when you bite into a sweet watermelon paleta. Milk paletas are made with pureed fruits so the fruit mixes with the cream. Milk paleta flavors also include cookies and cream, arroz con leche, coffee and more!
